HOW TO OBTAIN A TRADE LICENSE

  • Obtain Trade License Application Form and application form for Police Clearnace Certificate for Trade License from the Ministry's website www.mti.gov.bt

  • Fill up the basic information and obtain locational clearance from Dzongkhag/municipal authorities;

  • Attach a copy of Police Clearance Certificate and Citizenship Identity Card;
    Submit the completed form with attachments to RTIO;

  • On approval submit three copies of passport size photographs;

  • Pay the applicable registration and license fees and cost of license booklet.

    Note:
    · Application Form for Wholesale Dealership License must be endorsed by the BCCI & submitted along with a letter of appointment for dealership from the concerned company.
    Issuance and renewal of all licenses are done by the RTIOs for all the respective regions. Licenses are cancelled automatically if not renewed after one year of expiry.
    Application for name transfers, activity conversions and location shifting in the three border towns, viz. Phuentsholing, Gelephu and Samdrup Jongkhar will require approvals from the Department of Trade, MTI.

    The Trade Classification including the category and commodities is given in Annexure 2.
    The General Guidelines for Industrial and Commercial Ventures in Bhutan, 1997, is given in Annexure 3. It includes the Rules and Regulations for Establishment and Operation of Industrial and Commercial Ventures in Bhutan, 1995 and Bhutan Package Commodities Rules & Regulations, 1995.
