Early Warning System (EWS) in Punakha-Wangdue Valley

Two geologists from the Department of Geology and Mines attended a study tour on EWS assessment in Norway from April 11-24, 2007. The program was jointly ogranized by the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) and Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI). Field work for EWS site assesment in Punakha-Wangdue valley was conducted from June 1 - 20, 2007, and the report was submitted to the FSP Consultant on July 1, 2007. ...more

Chamkhar GLOF Hazard Zonation

Field work for Chamkhar GLOF hazard zonation was conducted from 24 March 2007 to 30 June 2007. The data collected for hazard zonation include: Geology, geomorphology, slope stability, hydro-geology, socio-economic and land use/cover.

Project status:

July 5, 2007: About 90% of data analysis completed.

August 18, 2007: First draft of the final report submitted to Full Size Project (FSP) consultant.

 

GIS and Remote Sensing Training

Three DGM staff trained at the South Asian Institute of Technology, Katmandu, Nepal, in Advanced ArcGIS course from 18th February to 16th March 2007.

Two DGM staff trained in flood modeling and simulation at the South Asian Institute of Technology, Katmandu, Nepal, from April 15-30, 2007.
